Synopsis
An audio recording of a talk with artist Nayan Kulkarni and Chapman Taylor Architects, held at Arnolfini in October 2008, introduced by Jim Dixon, Urban Archaeologist.
Details
Artist Nayan Kulkarni will be in discussion with Jonathan Bethel from Chapman Taylor who together created the unique roof for the Cabot Circus Central area and the schemes three new streets. At 6,500 square metres and composed of some 1,000 panes of glass, the roof is the first of its kind in the UK, creating a light, airy, open environment, while providing protection from the elements.
The roof was commissioned by InSite Arts on behalf of the Bristol Alliance. A design collaboration with Chapman Taylor, Schlaich Bergermann and SKM Hunts. The design of the free form glazed roof dramatizes the spaces by liberating the form of the roof from the buildings. This project won a Corus Structural Steel Award in 2009.
Event supported by Bristol City Council, InSite Arts, and Cabot Circus (Bristol Alliance)
