Details
Explore how handfuls of earth have been taken on extraordinary journeys in order to link distant places - allowing exiles to stay close to their homeland, believers to own a part of sacred sites, and rulers to claim dominion over far-flung territories.
Lucy’s published research focuses on the perception and decoration of holy ground in the Middle Ages; she is also interested in practices concerning the portability of place that continue until the present day.

Steven Claydon’s work brings together objects recalling historical artefacts, cultural ephemera and geological samples, skillfully mixing different cultures and periods of history. Merging reality with fiction, and appearing at once meaningful and useless, Claydon’s works oscillate between an idea of truth and fantasy, seeming to offer a fragmented image of a future civilisation’s past. He will talk about his practice and new commission in Bristol.
