Synopsis
A talk by Ed Atkins at Arnolfini on the 26th March 2014.
Details
Ed Atkins works largely in video to explore the disparities between the immateriality of digital media and the reality of the subject which they represent. A key term of his work is ‘High Definition’. While it relates usually to a technological standard, this notion alludes also to the ability of contemporary moving images to define new physical and corporeal realities. In February 2014 Atkins will present his largest solo exhibition to date at Kunsthalle Zürich. He is currently a Lecturer in Fine Art at Goldsmiths University.

Steven Claydon’s work brings together objects recalling historical artefacts, cultural ephemera and geological samples, skillfully mixing different cultures and periods of history. Merging reality with fiction, and appearing at once meaningful and useless, Claydon’s works oscillate between an idea of truth and fantasy, seeming to offer a fragmented image of a future civilisation’s past. He will talk about his practice and new commission in Bristol.
